The Great Sunbed Race

Touritsmake a mad dash for a prime poolside spot in another shocking sunbed video.

Holidaymakers can be seen sprinting in the early morning sun across a tiled area hoping to hog an ideal lounger for the day — this time in Sardinia, Italy.

Thomson Holidays resort Janne e Sole has three pools and hundreds of loungers, but even that doesn’t stop the rush.

The footage was filmed by guest Martin Coles from Banbury, Oxon., who sent it to Thomson saying: “Absolute joke having to queue and then run to get sunbeds at Janne E sole in Sardinia #holidayhell #nofun #joke”.

The four-star hotel, where all-inclusive starts from £559 per person, is not the only venue to suffer from the problem.

This summer has seen sunbed races reach ridiculous new heights, especially in Gran Canaria.

We reported how one of the Spanish island’s most popular resorts is considering bringing in a two-hour time limit to help ward off greedy bed baggers.

Exclusive mobile phone videos showed sunseekers at the Servatur Waikiki Hotel flocking to nab beds after queuing from as early as 6:45am.

Guests reported seeing an elderly woman being knocked over and a man in a wheelchair pushed out of the way of an 8am stampede.

Hotel insiders that British and Irish tourists were the worst offenders for towel-tagging sun-loungers.

But guest Anthony Woolf, 68, told The Sun: "It wasn't just the Brits, it was people from all over — French, Germans, Spanish, Bulgarians, Italians and more. Everyone was at it."

He added: "We've stayed in lots of hotels in Turkey and Spain and I've never seen anything like this.

"It was better than the start of the London Marathon! All the sunbeds were gone in under a minute."

Recent research said 98 per cent of British holidaymakers felt irritated when other holidaymakers reserved sun loungers.

In July we reported how a Spanish resort is considering fining tourists who save beach spots up to £661.

Wardens are set to patrol 10 miles of beaches along San Pedro del Pinatar on the Costa Blanca near Murcia handing out fines to those who bag a spot by the Med.
