Music stars including Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson have paid tribute to The Voice singer who has died at the age of 33.

She rose to fame in 2017 on series 13 of the US version of the TV show, where she was on coach Cyrus' team and made it to the top 11.

On Freeman's Instagram account, her family said she died from an "extreme case of pneumonia and a blood clot that travelled to her heart".

They added: "While at home her husband Dion performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. She passed away at a local hospital shortly after."

They said she was a "beautiful force in the world" who "inspired fans nationwide having successfully battled cervical cancer and living her life to the fullest while fighting lupus".

On hearing the news of her death, Cyrus posted a photo of a rainbow on Instagram and wrote: "Thank You Janice Freeman…for everything. This represents you perfectly."

Coach Jennifer Hudson also remembered Freeman by sharing a clip of her audition for the music competition show where she sang the Imagine Dragons song Radioactive.

Hudson wrote: "The voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all!"

She continued: "My heart and prayers go out to Janice Freeman's daughter and family!"

Freeman is survived by her husband Dion, daughter Hannah and mother Janice.

Dion Freeman released a statement saying: "She struggled every single day. She was constantly in pain-literally, for years - but was sure she would conquer it all. She just kept on fighting."
