Brit Award Nominations 2018

Sam Smith has been left out of this year’s Brits – in one of the biggest snubs in the awards’ history.

Sam soared to the top of the album charts in November with The Thrill of It All, which beat off the competition just one week after its release.

It even went on to become the third best-selling album of the year after one month in the charts.

But astonishingly, when the nominations for the awards ceremony were announced earlier today, Sam was missing from the list of contenders.

And the shock snub will spark a backlash from his fans who were betting on him to give Ed Sheeran a serious run for his money.

Instead, Ed has got to be considered the favourite to walk away from next month’s do with armfuls of gongs, thanks to nominations for British Male Solo Artist, British Single, British Album and British Artist Video of the Year.

And only DUA LIPA – who scored five nods thanks to her incredible debut album – managed to beat him when it comes to racking up nominations.

Others drowning their sorrows might include HARRY STYLES, who must have been hoping for a look in for British Male Solo Artist.

But at least he can console himself with his nomination for British Video.

While former bandmate LIAM PAYNE got two nods for hit Strip That Down, NIALL HORAN and LOUIS TOMLINSON went completely overlooked.

And NOEL GALLAGHER will also be kicking himself after his brother LIAM was recognised alongside Ed in the British Male Solo Artist category.

No doubt that’s one that we’ll see brought up in a pub brawl between the two at some point.

There were more shocks in store when it came to the International Female shortlist, with both LADY GAGA and KATY PERRY missing from the category.

Both could have had better years, but I’d still rather see them on the list than BJORK – even if her quirky fashion choices do liven up a red carpet.

And in their absence, I’ll definitely be cheering on PINK on the night.

Other noticeable absences from the list included KYGO, JOHN LEGEND and JOHN MAYER, who were both overlooked for International Male Solo Artist.

And THE CHAINSMOKERS missed out on an International Group nomination, despite becoming only the third group to have three songs in the Bilboard Top 100 at any one time.

But this year’s shortlist did hold some pleasant surprises for those who (I imagine) were not expecting them.

Little-known artist LOYLE CARNER managed to score two nominations, while one of the nods for Breakthrough Act went to a rapper simply known as Dave.
