"Things like this just don’t happen to normal people like me".
A gardener from Halifax is celebrating today after scooping £1,000,000 on EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker draw on 13th February, 2018. Mark Chalmers, 56, said he still thinks he is in a dream that he is going to wake up from as “things like this just don’t happen to normal people like me.” Mark says he and his wife, Ruth, 57, now plan to help their two daughters, who are currently in rented accommodation, to get on to the property ladder.
And he says he has no plans to give up his gardening work just yet. Mark said, “I could never let my customers down. I love my work and the people I work for so I do not have any plans to stop working at the moment.
“I do have to keep pinching myself as I am constantly thinking this has to be a dream which I am going to wake up from.
“Winning the lottery is something which everyone always dreams about happening but I never truly believed this could happen to me – and it has!
“My family and I can now look forward to a fantastic future with no money worries.
Helping my two daughters is also a top priority – it’s every dad’s dream to see their kids sorted.”
Mark is planning to celebrate with his family this weekend – with a champagne dinner. “I have never had champagne before and I cannot think of any better occasion to be tasting champagne for the first time than becoming £1 million richer!” Mark described the moment he went back to the shop where he bought his ticket, Morrisons in Illingworth, to check his numbers, “The shop assistant just said to me it was too much for her to pay out. I could not believe what I was hearing – I thought fantastic, I must have won a few thousand pounds.
“I immediately went home and called Camelot only to be told I had actually won £1 million! My wife said I just let out this almighty scream! I didn’t know it was possible for my voice to be so high pitched!” And Mark says he already has his EuroMillions ticket for tonight’s draw: “If I can win once, I can win again! I have even played two lines for tonight, rather than just the one which I would normally do. I am certainly feeling lucky at the moment!”
