A protest has been organised in Huddersfield against Donald Trump's visit to the UK.

The US President is due here on Thursday for a trip that includes dinner with Theresa May and at Windsor Castle.

A number of rallies have been arranged by the group Yorkshire Young Socialists. There will be one at Market Cross in Huddersfield on Friday evening, and others in other major towns and cities.

Jack Niddrie, campaigns organiser for Leeds Young Socialists, said "Donald Trump emboldens everything that stands against our democratic principles. His hate filled rhetoric has legitimised the values of intolerance, prejudice and aggression which are incompatible with our society.

"Because of this I can't sit idle whilst this man visits our country; Trump must be held to account."

Iain Dalton, Youth Fight for Jobs regional organiser, added: "Teresa May conceived of Trump visiting the UK as a show of her 'strong and stable' leadership - but Trump's admirers in the Tory government have just resigned, revealing May's 'weak and wobbly' real character.

"Protesters this Friday are not just rejecting Trump's bigoted policies, but those of the Tories too who seek to look after the interests of big business at the expense of the rest of us."
