Otley's Lizzie Armitstead Wins Commonwealth Gold

Otleys' Lizzie Armitstead becomes the first English woman to win a road race title at the Commonwealths.

Otley's Lizzie Armitstead claimed gold in the 98km women's road race at the Commonwealth Games. The 25-year-old burst past Emma Pooley with 7km to go.

This marks her first ever gold win.

In 2010 Lizzie scooped silver medals at Delhi in 2010 and the London Olympics two years ago.

Emma Pooley is now set to retire from cycling and cried as she crossed the line for her second silver of the Games.

Lizzie Armitstead summed up the achievement as "special, surreal", adding: "This is something I have always dreamed about; it means so much to me. I am always a runner-up."
