Huddersfield 0 Preston 0 Excitement 0.

Spare a thought for the person who had to put together the highlight reel for Huddersfield's home draw with Preston on Saturday.

The goalless match at the John Smiths was short on both spectacle and quality chances, but Danny Cowley will have been the happier of the managers.

His side were the proud owners of the match's only shot on target and although the 41 year old described the game as one that "would send a glass eye to sleep", he was pleased with the work of his defence.

To restrict a recently great side to shots from range or into the side netting is undoubtedly a positive for a team battling relegation, but the singular point doesn't do wonders for the Terriers' safety.

Town sit two points and two places above the relegation zone and could slip back into it today with wins for both Middlesbrough and Hull over QPR and West Brom respectively.

Such an outcome is unlikely but does serve to highlight the tenuous position the club are in one year on from Premier League football. With a third year in League One confirmed for the North East club, the perils of "doing a Sunderland" are plain for all to see.

Huddersfield travel to Berkshire on Tuesday to face Reading. The Royals are not a great side by any stretch of the imagination and spent the first half of the season looking likely to go down, but they now sit 6 points above the Terriers in 13th and are coming off the back of a 5-0 thumping of Luton Town.

Preston's play off hopes look doomed for yet another season meanwhile. Having spent most of the campaign looking like it could finally be their year, they've now picked up just 2 points from the last 7 games.
