New Huddersfield Giants head coach Rick Stone says he is excited by the challenge ahead of him.

The Australian has arrived in the UK and will take charge of his first game against St Helens on Sunday.

He replaces Paul Anderson as head coach after he was sacked last month.

Stone said: “I’m looking forward to Sunday and I understand the situation we are in and it’s exciting because the last couple of weeks of the season things get really serious and I am looking forward to the challenge.

“I think it is going to be a good fit. The boys and staff seem great, it is pretty hard after 48 hours to make a conclusion on things but it has been positive so far.”

Stone will have former players Chris Thorman and Luke Robinson as his assistants

Stone added: “I did a bit of homework about Huddersfield and spoke to a few people who have been involved in Super League and they all said it is a really traditional footy area and steeped in history considering the sport was born here, so it was good to hear those kind of comments and they were all really excited for me coming here.”
