Listen here to our interview with Bradford City's Chief Operating Officer James Mason.

Bradford City's Chief Operating Officer has insisted the club are ready to spend money in the January transfer window, but refuse to overpay for players.

The Bantams are under pressure to add to their squad before February 1st, with manager Stuart McCall struggling to find enough fit defenders for their game at Bristol Rovers.

A number of bids have been put in for players. One, for Blackpool's Kelvin Mellor, could go through this week.

James Mason told Pulse 2 MatchDay:LIVE before the 3-1 defeat at the Memorial Stadium: "We've come under some flack - but that is nothing new.

"It's difficult; expectations rise each season. The players we are going for, we've been targeting for a few months.

"With Kelvin Mellor, we went for him and put in a bid that we were told would be in the region and we haven't heard anything back. So what can you do?

"We have also put in an offer for a League 1 defender this week - who I won't name. When we asked a price, we were told £350,000! We're not going to pay that for a defender playing well below us in the league.

"We have the money to spend. We just need to spend it in the right way.  There are two or three players that we are going for that might land! I'm confident we will get someone in!"
