Centre-back is a 'natural leader of men' according to Town manager Chris Powell.
Mark Hudson has been named as Huddersfield Town's new captain.
The experienced centre-back takes over the reins from Lee Peltier with immediate effect.
Manager Chris Powell said: “Mark is a natural leader of men out on the field and having already seen the impact he’s made for us, it is no surprise that he has captained all three of his previous clubs.
"In the absence of Lee Peltier he’s led the team with distinction during our last two matches on the road and I believe this decision was the right one to make.
"I am really pleased to have him among our ranks.
“I spoke with Lee Peltier about the decision last week and he was thoroughly professional and accepted my judgement. Make no mistake – Lee is a senior professional who is very well respected here as an excellent footballer and he still has a big role to play at the Club on and off the pitch.”
