Former Town & City Defender Dies

Denis Atkins made over 300 appearances for the two clubs.

Denis Atkins, the former Huddersfield Town and Bradford City defender, has died at the age of 77.

The right-back made over 300 appearances combined for the Terriers and Bantams.

He was born in Bradford but joined Town in 1955, retiring from football after the 1970-71 season to become a teacher.

In a statement confirming his death, Bradford City AFC said: "He was predeceased by his lovely wife Beryl, and had three daughters Julie, Jill (who represented Britain at hockey and was an Olympic Games winner in Barcelona), Tracy, and a son Neil.

"Our condolences are with the family at this difficult time."
