In this modern day you would be surprised at how many things are thrown in the regular bin that actually could have been recycled. These days the vast majority of things are recyclable and to make sure you don't miss a thing, check the label!
The average recycling rate across England is 44.8%, however Kirklees has just a 27.2% recycling rate whilst Calderdale is beating the national average with a 48% recycling rate.
A spokesperson for Bradford Council recently said of the DEFRA figures: "The latest recycling rates up to the end of December last year in Bradford show that we are close to achieving a figure of 40 per cent (39.2), with only 3.5 per cent of the district's waste going to landfill."
The recycling rate for waste from households in England in 2017 was 45.2%, up from 44.9% in 2016. In 2000, the household waste recycling rate was 11%. Just 12.5% of all local authority waste was disposed to landfill in 2017/18, down by 0.9 million tonnes or 22% to 3.2 million tonnes.
