Oscar Nominations

Five British actors have been nominated for Oscars - along with the films The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything.

The eight films shortlisted for best picture are; Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory Of Everything and Whiplash.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne are the Brits battling it out for best actor - they're up against Steve Carrell for Foxcatcher, Bradley Cooper in Sniper and Michael Keaton in Birdman.

Cumberbatch starred in The Imitation Game, while Redmayne took on the role of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. David Oyelowo was snubbed for his role in Selma.

Overall, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman lead the nominations with nine each.

The nominees for best actress include Brits Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl and Felicity Jones for The Theory of Everything.

Also nominated are Marion Cotillard, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon.

Keira Knightley gets the nod in the supporting actress category for her role in The Imitation Game.

Also nominated are Patricia Arquette for Boyhood; Laura Dern for Wild; Emma Stone for Birdman; and Meryl Streep for Into the Woods. Streep beats her own nomination record with the nod, her 19th.

Supporting actor nominees are Robert Duvall for The Judge; Edward Norton for Birdman; Mark Ruffalo for Foxcatcher; Ethan Hawke for Boyhood; and J.K. Simmons for Whiplash.

The Oscars will be presented February 22 in Los Angeles, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
